A record year for the 7e edition of the benefit cocktail of theMusée des Abénakis !

Odanak, March 26, 2018 – More than 125 friends and partners of the Musée des Abénakis gathered on March 22 to participate in the seventh edition of its annual fundraising cocktail. Thanks to the presence of guests and the generous contribution of 30 sponsors, the Musée des Abénakis is very pleased to announce that it has raised $33,500 ($24,000 in net proceeds) to support its educational and cultural missions. This is the largest amount raised by the Musée des Abénakis during a fundraising activity.

Once again this year, the participants of the evening were able to discover the artistic and culinary richness of the First Nations and immersed themselves in the contemporary culture of the Abenaki people. For the seventh year, the culinary discovery of the evening was entrusted to chef Steve Bissonette of the restaurant La Sagamité, in Wendake. Guests were able to discover unusual hors d’oeuvres such as a smoked buffalo carpaccio on taro, a deer tartare with smoked paprika and a smoked duck breast with physalis, to name just three bites! They also had the opportunity to chat with each other to the rhythm of the electro music of Geronimo Inutiq, an Inuk DJ, who brightened up the evening for the second year.

Our famous silent auction was also back – and its reputation is well established! Indeed, the 14 pieces of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists and craftspeople on offer delighted all the guests; more than $6,000 was raised through the sale of works! At the end of the evening, draws allowed 13 lucky people to win magnificent prizes, including a trip to Essipit including two nights in a condo and a whale watching cruise, a 5-course dinner at the restaurant La Sagamité for two people, an overnight stay at the Montfort Hotel in Nicolet with access to the Nordic spa, two nights in an EXP chalet in one of the SPAQ national parks and a Bose headphone.

The Musée des Abénakis would like to warmly thank all its partners – especially its major sponsors BLG, Desjardins caisse de Nicolet, RBC, Conseil des Abénakis de Wôlinak and the SAQ – as well as its guests, without whom this event would not have been so successful!

The Musée des Abénakis is subsidized by the ministère de la Culture et des Communications et le Conseil des Abénakis d’Odanak.
