High School Educational Program at the Musée des Abénakis

Immerse your students in the world of the W8banaki Nation with the MGEZO program, specially designed for high school students.

Through sensory workshops, quizzes, archaeological activities, active rallies, and craft projects, your students will explore rich, current, and meaningful Indigenous realities. Each activity aligns with the competencies of the Quebec Education Program (QEP) and also develops transversal skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, communication, and cultural openness.

Please note: All school programs are offered in French only.

Educational Activities

Choose a half-day (3 workshops) or a full day (up to 6 workshops) of educational activities held indoors. Each session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes on average, is tailored to the group’s level, and is led by our experienced team. Workshops are available by reservation for groups of up to 50 students.

Creation of the World

Creation of the World

Dive into the creation myths of the world according to the W8banakiak and discover a worldview based on the balance between humans, the elements, and the territory. Through ritual objects and symbolic stories, your students will explore values that still resonate today, especially regarding the environment.

Through a sensory journey at the heart of the permanent W8banakiak exhibition, your students will discover objects, stories, and testimonies illustrating the rich culture of the W8banaki Nation. An educational immersion to better understand Indigenous realities from past to present.

In a dynamic quiz format, your students will test their knowledge of Indigenous peoples: history, culture, traditions, and contemporary issues. A fun and educational activity that encourages dialogue and reflection.

Introduce your students to the basics of archaeology through real artifacts unearthed in Odanak. A hands-on and engaging activity where young learners become detectives of the past to better grasp the evolution of the territory and lifestyles.

In teams, your students will explore the exhibitions and outdoor spaces of the Museum to complete a series of challenges. A stimulating group activity that combines observation, reading, and collaboration.

Dreamcatcher Craft Workshop

Feathers, beads, leather, and an inspiring legend: students create a unique dreamcatcher while learning about its Indigenous symbolism. A workshop that is manual, cultural, and personal.

Invite your students to recreate a traditional w8banaki toy using corn husks and string. This hands-on workshop reveals ancestral skills and stimulates both fine motor skills and imagination.

Offer your students a tasty break inspired by w8banaki tradition. Bannock, wild berry jam, and “friendship juice” will let them discover a flavorful facet of Indigenous culinary heritage.

Important details

– ROLE OF TEACHERS
Your participation is essential for a successful visit: punctuality, safety, discipline, and encouraging active participation are key to a great experience. Teachers and school professionals participate free of charge (except for activities with additional costs).

– CHAPERONES
One free chaperone is provided per 10 students. Beyond this ratio, parent chaperones must pay the regular admission fee. All chaperones must stay with the group at all times.

– LUNCHES AND SNACKS
Indoor and outdoor spaces are available for meals.
